Operation Zimbabwe

Problems in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is a nation experiencing a humanitarian crisis. Over the last few years, due to governmental policies, the country which was once the bread basket of Africa with a flourishing economy and a good social, educational and medical infrastructure has been brought to its knees.

Given this situation, the people of Zimbabwe are suffering on all fronts. They have had to endure many “Operations” meted out against them by the Government including Operation Murambatsvina, (clear out rubbish - where thousands of homes were destroyed), Operation Mavhoterapapi (where did you put you x - punishing those who failed to vote for the ruling party) and Operation Dzikisai Madhishi (pull down your satellite dish - to prevent access to the outside world). All these have caused untold misery, affecting the lives of millions.

What is PCNI doing in Zimbabwe?

In the midst of all this devastation, PCNI has been working in Kuwadzana, a Southern suburb of Harare since 1996. They have a training centre there which currently engages in the following activities: A Christian Training School for lay workers, a secondary school, a library/reading room, a pre school, a community hall, an HIV/Aids orphans feeding programme, a brick laying and welding project, a sewing project, a community hall and a church.

Against all the odds, whilst the country has plunged deeper into poverty, the centre has continued to flourish and has become an oasis for thousands in a desert of suffering. In 2008/9, thanks to generous sponsorship from Westborough United Reformed Church, a dormitory was built to cater for the needs of those coming in from the rural areas.

Over the last couple of years , PCNI have worked together with others to see the fulifllment of a number of specific projects to help improve the lives of those living in Kuwadzana. In this time, much has been achieved.
